Marcie Vargas became senior vice president and chief people officer on June 1, 2024.

Marcie joined Sylvamo in 2023 as vice president, Talent and Organizational Development, where she was responsible for culture, engagement, inclusion and diversity, learning and development, recruiting and succession planning. 

Before joining Sylvamo, Marcie served as chief human resources officer at Barr Brands International for almost 10 years. She also served as senior vice president, Human Resources at Fred’s, Inc. and U.S. vice president, Inclusion and Diversity for McDonald’s. 

Marcie has served on the President’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities and on the boards of directors for the Oregon Council for Hispanic Advancement and the Hispanic Alliance for Career Advancement. Marcie has a bachelor’s degree in industrial relations from Loyola University of Chicago.
